Sotheby’s is auctioning the game ball from OG Anunoby miracle last-second tip-in frpm Game 4 of the Knicks/Spurs finals - the culminating moment of an improbable 29 point comeback at Madison Square Garden that shook the entire arena and catapulted the Knicks to their first championship in 53 years... a moment many New Yorkers and fans all over the world thought may never happen in our lifetime. We believe that ball, which will almost certainly break the record for the most valuable basketball ever sold, should live with the community, and not in the personal collection of one ultra-wealthy collector is likely to vault it away forever. What is GardenDAO?
GardenDAO is a single-purpose community created to bid on, acquire, and steward the game-used basketball from Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals - opening for bidding at Sotheby’s on June 30th. If successful, the community will collectively determine how the asset is preserved, displayed, and utilized in the future.
What exactly am I buying?
You are purchasing GardenDAO governance tokens, which allow you to participate in the community and vote on future decisions regarding the DAO and its treasury. Tokens represent ownership in this asset’s lifecycle and will trade freely if and /when the asset is acquired.
How much are we planning to bid, and when will we bid?
The campaign is capped at $2 million, our initial bidding target. We may not need to use the full amount, and any unused capital will remain with the DAO or be returned based on the community's decision. If bidding exceeds $2 million, we have access to additional private capital and may seek community approval to raise more. To avoid signaling our maximum bid to competing bidders, we will not disclose it publicly. We intend to place our opening bid within the first 24 hours of the Sotheby's auction and will share updates through @TheGardenDAO on X and on GardenDAO.com.
What happens if we win the auction?
The basketball will be immediately insured, securely stored, and preserved on behalf of the DAO. The tokens you purchase will begin trading (at which point you can sell should you choose to) and the community will then vote on future initiatives, which may include exhibitions, public displays, licensing opportunities, fan experiences, and future acquisitions.
What happens if we don’t win?
If the DAO is unsuccessful in acquiring the basketball, all contributed funds will be returned to their original wallets following auction settlement.
